Welcome. I'm a husband, a father, an ordained minister, and a postmodern pilgrim. You can check out some of the projects I'm involved with below. In this space I mostly write about the intersections of Christianity and culture.

I am reminded of how Dallas Willard describes Jesus' ministry in The Divine Conspiracy, how he spoke in an intentionally startling way to contradict commonly-held beliefs of his day. "Blessed are the poor," for example.

Looks like Jesus "leadership style" was more O'Connoresque than Madison Ave-inspired.

Hard indeed. I fear that scratching the itch would just lead to a bloody sore.

Thanks for the source...looks like more O'Connor to add to the pile

Hi John - I know how you feel about the itch to write fiction. But I can hardly think of anything harder to write. This quote comes from her article, "The Fiction Writer and His Country."

Jason,
A fantastic quote...represents everything I love about the power of fiction.

I have an itch, as yet unscratched, to write fiction. I read Flannery O'Connor for the first time last year, and after finishing, I scribbled down this thought which I revisit often: "I want to write stories that peel back the curtain and allow the reader to spy the inner workings of the madness around them."

It seems she said the same thing, though better, in the paragraphs you quote here. Where did you find them?
