Welcome. I'm a husband, a father, an ordained minister, and a postmodern pilgrim. You can check out some of the projects I'm involved with below. In this space I mostly write about the intersections of Christianity and culture.

It's much easier to package the Gospel in a soundbyte or two than it is to live lives fully surrendered to Christ. We want so badly to avoid anything that requires pain and sacrifice. If we want to avoid those two things, then we should seriously avoid the Gospel. "Take up your cross and follow Me" doesn't exactly sound like the best news.

What a great example of how entertainment technology can isolate us Steve! I love technology, of course, and clearly am not afraid to use it - but I'm very concerned that the "medium is the message" and that as a result we're becoming the most connected and loneliest people in history.

this is a significant message that needs to be heard...that we are not called to become consumers-for-Christ nor marketing-agents-for-Christ, but called to be real and be in real relationships with others...and really love one another.

some of my friends are now co-dependent with their facebook or Twitter interface and the "buzz" from "facebook friends" and their buzz back. literally, my wife and i met an old friend at this great pub in baltimore a while back, and i left the bar to go to the restroom, and there was a couple in the back sitting at a table waiting for their food and they were not interacting, but both had their attention on their iPhones, and i say clearly when i went back by their table (and yes, they were still not interacting with each other) the girl was on facebook...and probably the guy too. i wanted to interrupt, introduce them to one another...anyway, thanks for that jason...good stuff.

"I’m definitely not advocating the notion of “unconditional love.”

I didn't think you were but it is a good thing you're not because - you're not going to get it! LOL!

"But there’s a difference between the shared stipulations of a covenant on the one hand, and the concealed intentions of a deception on the other."

Oh, absolutely. I totally agree.

As a side note though, I will add - as far as unconditional love is concerned - I personally think the closest we can really come to understanding it is when we look at the love between a parent and their child (unfortunately for some families - love itself is absent, let alone anything resembling love "unconditional"). Without trying to drag out the hip boots - it's only when I look at the love I have for my kids and even though I know that as human beings they are fully capable of commiting horrible acts of sin - I would still love them regardless. It is only then that I catch a glimpse of how much God loves us. However, I'm sure you both can fully understand where I'm coming from.
